Underlight Angler: Legion's Secret Fishing Rod Today
Legion's fishing artifact is still one of the best toys a fisher can own: it walks on water, pulls you to the nearest Legion fishing pool and turns you into a big blue fish under water. Nothing in the game points you to it. First you need a hidden achievement for 18 rare fish, then a pearl that drops at random from Broken Isles pools. And today its trait tree doesn't even open the normal way.

| Equip: Grants the Undercurrent ability, allowing you to instantly teleport to the nearest Legion fishing node within 100 yards. Equip: +15 Fishing Skill. Requires Fishing (1) |
What it does
- Underlight Blessing: under water you turn into a large blue fish, breathe and swim much faster. Players call it the shark form.
- Surface Tension: walk on water.
- Undercurrent: teleports you to the nearest Legion fishing pool within 100 yards.
- Way of the Flounder: enemies notice you later while you fish.
- Extras on the Broken Isles: Blood of Sargeras and better catches of the zone fish.
How to get it
- Legion Fishing 100.
- Bigger Fish to Fry: catch the 18 rare Legion fish. None of them bite normally. Each zone has a fished-up trigger item that opens a short window for its rare fish: a Skrog Toenail spawns a murloc that drops slime for the Leyshimmer Blenny, a Rusty Queenfish Brooch brings Ghostly Queenfish, a Stunned, Angry Shark has to be killed for the Seabottom Squid. The Arcane Lure from Conjurer Margoss helps. Since the War Within pre-patch the achievement counts for your whole Warband.
- Fish in Broken Isles pools, not open water, until the Luminous Pearl drops.
- Bring it to Khadgar in the Violet Citadel in Legion Dalaran, then do "The Dalaran Fountain" with Marcia Chase.
- Nat Pagle appears (relog if he doesn't) and sends you to Fish Frenzy, a solo scenario on an island off Val'sharah: clear the murlocs, fish 15 Gloaming Frenzy, kill Mglrrp, and Marcia Chase builds the rod.

The hidden trait tree
Since Dragonflight many players see an empty tree when they open the rod. Three ways around it:
- The Plumber addon fixes it with a module that is on by default.
- Open your class artifact at the order hall forge, close it, then Shift+right-click the Angler in your bags.
- Recent players report that Shift+right-click alone works again in patch 12.1.
Artifact Power only comes from rare Legion fish caught with the Angler equipped. The full tree takes thousands of them; the fish form is one of the first traits.
Fish form in Midnight
The fish form and water walking only work while the rod is visible, so unhide your profession gear if you hid it. Since patch 12.1 the form also needs a recent cast with the rod in hand. Midnight added its own rod in the same spirit, The Coiled Huntress, which turns you into a snake, but only in Midnight zones.
Extra colours
The Underlight Emerald adds a green and a red version. It comes from Fisherfriend of the Isles: reach Best Friend with six Fishing Masters who rotate daily on the Broken Isles. Players were still earning it in September 2026.
