Editorial Policy
This page explains who writes Lost WOW, how a guide is put together, and what we do when something turns out to be wrong. We publish it because a guide is only useful if you can trust it.
Who writes the guides
Guides are signed Mira Duskwood, the pen name of the Lost WOW editorial team. Lost WOW is an independent fan site. It is not affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment, and nobody pays to be featured or linked.
What we cover, and why
Two things: the hidden side of current World of Warcraft (secret mounts, pets, transmog and puzzles that come without quest text) and the history of content that was planned, cut or removed. We write a guide when the existing ones are scattered over forum threads, videos and Discord messages, and a player needs one clear page with every step in order.
How a guide is researched
- Two sources for every fact. Each step, location and requirement has to appear in at least two independent sources, usually Warcraft Wiki, Wowhead and Icy Veins. When sources disagree, we look for the newer one and say what changed.
- Dates matter. Secrets change with patches, so we check when each source was written. An old guide that describes a step removed two patches ago does not count.
- Game data over memory. Item IDs, coordinates and patch numbers are taken from the game database and patch notes, never guessed.
- History pages get a "today" check. For every lost area we look up what happened to it since: whether it opened, was removed, or returned in Classic, Season of Discovery or WoW Forever.
Screenshots and videos
The first picture in a guide shows the reward itself, because that is what you came for. Every step that asks you to find something has a screenshot of the place or object, placed at that step. Videos are embedded from YouTube and load only when you press play.
Updates and corrections
When a patch moves a step, breaks a puzzle or changes a reward, we correct the page and the "Updated" date at the top changes with it. We do not quietly delete information that may still be true: if we are unsure, we check again before removing it. Found a mistake? Tell us.
Safety
Lost WOW does not teach how to break into restricted areas of the live game. Reaching closed places breaks the World of Warcraft terms of use and can get an account suspended. The lost area pages describe history and game files, not exploits.
