Jenafur, the Cat in the Opera Hall

A cat, an empty bowl and a sheet of music written in meat: the gentlest secret in the game, with one of the best stories behind it.

The story

The riddle was created after a Make-A-Wish visit to Blizzard in 2019 by Amara Lunastar, who also raised money for fibrolamellar liver cancer research. Her character stands in Ashenvale, worried about her cat. The puzzle went live in patch 8.2.5 and took the community months. Amara posted rhyming hints along the way before it was solved.

Walkthrough

  1. Talk to Amara Lunastar at the House of Edune in south-western Ashenvale (17.3, 49.4). She asks you to keep an eye on her cat.

  1. Visit Donni Anthania's house just outside Stormwind in Elwynn Forest (44.2, 53.4) and check the Empty Dish in the corner. The kibble beside it points the way to Karazhan.

  1. Enter Return to Karazhan through the dungeon entrance and clear the trash around the Opera Hall, Moroes and the Maiden of Virtue.
  2. Collect eight pieces of meat hidden in that part of the dungeon: two Fishy Bits, two Juicy Drumsticks, two Marbled Steaks, a Meaty Morsel and a Slathered Rib. Each spoils five minutes after you pick it up.

  1. Place them on the floor of the Opera Hall audience area in the right pattern. The hints describe it as notes on a stave: the rows of floor tiles are the lines, and two sets of four kibbles set a 4/4 beat.

  1. When the pattern is right, Jenafur appears. Target her and pet her to add her to your collection.

Good to know

Jenafur can be done solo, doesn't depend on another secret and has no rare drops or reputation gates. If a piece of meat spoils or lands on the wrong tile, it respawns where you found it after five minutes, so there's no need to reset the instance. Keep your sound on: the music is part of the reward, and Sebastian the organist has a new line for you afterwards.
