WoW Forever Racial Bonuses: Changes and Which Race to Choose

Racials in World of Warcraft: Forever are rebuilt from the ground up. Every race now has two active and two passive abilities of roughly equal value, the old resistances are gone, weapon specializations give crit instead of weapon skill, and six race and class combinations are new. Browse every racial below, then see what changed for each race and which one to pick for your class.

Racials: 2 active and 2 passive per race · New combinations: Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin · New race: Skyborne · Data: beta, October 2026

Race × class

What changed for racials

  • Two actives and two passives for everyone. Blizzard rebuilt the racials so that each race has comparable value, instead of a few races being the only sensible choice.
  • Weapon specializations give crit. An axe, mace or sword specialization now adds 1% crit with that weapon equipped (2% for Human swords), and it counts for spells too, so it matters for every class that can hold the weapon.
  • No more resistances. The +10 resistance racials are gone, replaced by new abilities.
  • Six new combinations and a new race, the Skyborne.

Race by race

Pick a race to see what changed from Classic.

Human

  • Will to Survive is new: a stun break on a three-minute cooldown.
  • Sword Specialization now gives 2% crit with a sword, twice as much as the other weapon specializations, instead of weapon skill.
  • Mace Specialization moved to the Dwarves, and Diplomacy is gone from the race; it lives on as the account-wide Legacy perk Diplomat.
  • New class: Hunter.

Dwarf

  • Stoneform now cuts physical damage taken by 10% instead of adding armour.
  • New passives: Mace Specialization (+1% crit with a mace) and Big Game Hunter (5% more damage to beasts).
  • Find Treasure now works alongside other tracking. Gun Specialization and Frost Resistance are gone.
  • New class: Shaman.

Night Elf

  • Elune's Light is new: 10% crit for 15 seconds on a three-minute cooldown, an offensive cooldown in the spirit of the Orc's Blood Fury.
  • Shadowmeld now works in combat.
  • Quickness adds 2% run speed to its dodge, and the wisp after death moves faster.
  • Nature Resistance is gone.

Gnome

  • Eureka! is new and was cut twice in the beta: on 24 September it went from up to 50% cheaper abilities to a flat 10%, and on 1 October it stopped affecting damage over time. Guides written before that still rate Gnomes too highly.
  • Escape Artist now also gives three seconds of immunity, on a two-minute cooldown.
  • Expansive Mind is now 5% more maximum mana, rage or energy instead of 5% Intellect.
  • Engineering Specialization means fewer device failures instead of extra skill. Arcane Resistance is gone.
  • New class: Priest.

Orc

  • Blood Fury now raises attack power and spell power by 10% with no drawback; in Classic it halved the healing you received and did nothing for casters.
  • Shatter Curse is new: removes and blocks curses and banes and cuts magic damage taken by 15%. It replaces Command, the old pet damage bonus.
  • Axe Specialization gives 1% crit; Hardiness now shortens stuns by 20% instead of a chance to resist them.
  • New class: Mage.

Undead

  • Touch of the Grave is new: attacks and spells can drain up to 5% of your maximum health from the target, more often for casters. It replaces Shadow Resistance.
  • Cannibalize now restores mana as well as health.
  • Will of the Forsaken no longer gives five seconds of immunity after it breaks a fear.
  • New class: Paladin.

Tauren

  • Plainsrunning is new: you gain speed the longer you keep moving, up to 30%. It replaces Nature Resistance.
  • Endurance adds 1% hit to its extra health.
  • Cultivation is now active: it duplicates a herb that anyone can pick.
  • War Stomp is unchanged.

Troll

  • Rapid Regeneration is new: a channel that heals half your health over six seconds.
  • Berserking is now a flat 10% haste instead of scaling with missing health.
  • Bow and Throwing Specialization are gone.
  • New class: Warlock.

Skyborne

The new race of Forever: exiled high elves from the floating Zephras Isle. You choose the faction when you create the character: High Order for the Alliance or Windshaper for the Horde.

  • Both get Walk on Air (a short glide), Wind Blessed (1% haste) and Elemental Insight (5% more damage to elementals).
  • High Order gets Read Ley Line (much faster health and mana regeneration out of combat), Windshaper gets Skysight (10% speed out of combat).
  • Classes: Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid on both sides, Mage for High Order, Shaman for Windshaper.

Which race to choose for each class

Pick your class. The differences between races are small in Forever, so play what you like; when you want the edge, this is what the class guides agree on.

Warrior

Alliance: Night Elf for damage, or Human if your best weapon is a sword. Tanks: Human with swords or Dwarf for Stoneform. In PvP, Human breaks stuns and Gnome escapes the snares that ruin a warrior's day.

Horde: Orc, for tanks and damage alike; Tauren is the tank alternative with extra health, hit and War Stomp. In PvP, Orc again for Hardiness and Shatter Curse.

Paladin

Alliance: Human for every spec: sword crit, and more Spirit for Holy. Dwarf for Protection or against rogues in PvP.

Horde: Undead is the only choice, and a good one, with Touch of the Grave for sustain and Will of the Forsaken in PvP.

Hunter

Alliance: Night Elf, because Elune's Light lines up with Rapid Fire or Bestial Wrath. Human only for a melee hunter with a sword. In PvP, Human or Dwarf.

Horde: Orc, with Troll close behind; Tauren for hit and Plainsrunning. In PvP, Orc or Tauren.

Rogue

Alliance: Night Elf for short fights, Human with swords for long ones. In PvP, Human or Gnome: stun break against snare immunity.

Horde: Orc, and axes are fine now that Combat's Hack and Slash covers every weapon. In PvP, Orc or Undead.

Mage

Alliance: Gnome, for 5% more mana and Escape Artist in PvP. High Order Skyborne is the best for levelling, because Read Ley Line removes most of the drinking.

Horde: Orc, now that Blood Fury adds spell power, with Troll close behind. In PvP, Undead or Orc.

Warlock

Alliance: Gnome or Human with a sword; damage over time can crit now, and the two are close.

Horde: Undead for now, thanks to Touch of the Grave and a Cannibalize that returns mana. Orc may overtake it at endgame. In PvP, Undead, or Orc for warlock duels where Shatter Curse decides the fight.

Priest

Alliance: Gnome for healing, with the new Priest spells Contingency Plan and Confounding Flash; Night Elf for Shadow. Fear Ward is baseline for every priest now, so it's no longer a reason to pick Dwarf.

Horde: Undead for every spec and for PvP.

Druid

Alliance: Night Elf, with Elune's Light and extra dodge for bears.

Horde: Tauren: War Stomp now works in forms, and Endurance adds health and hit. Skyborne druids get little in combat and their speed racials don't stack with Cat or Travel Form; pick them for their unique forms.

Shaman

Alliance: Dwarf, the only Alliance Shaman, with Stoneform and mace crit.

Horde: Orc for Enhancement and PvP; Tauren for hit; Windshaper Skyborne is an option for casters thanks to its haste.

Is the Skyborne worth it?

The Skyborne is a paid unlock. Its racials are good for levelling and travel, but in combat it only gets 1% haste and a damage bonus against elementals, and it is widely seen as the weakest race of the beta. Players have asked Blizzard for buffs on the forums, with no answer yet. Pick it for the look and the lore, not for performance.

Priest racial spells

Priests still get spells that depend on their race, but Fear Ward and Devouring Plague are now baseline for all of them. New race spells include Divine Grace for Humans, Chastise for Dwarves, Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan for the new Gnome priests and Dark Sacrifice for the Undead; Desperate Prayer moved from Humans to Dwarves. The tool above lists them under each race.

Changes during the beta

  • 24 September: Eureka! cut to a flat 10%; Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control or triggers from spells that deal no damage; Cultivation got a level requirement.
  • 1 October: Eureka! no longer affects damage over time; Cannibalize can't be used while immune to physical damage; three fixes to Priest racial spells.

Questions and answers

Is the Gnome still the best Alliance race?

Not by much any more. Eureka! was cut twice in the beta, so Gnomes are a good choice for casters and PvP rather than the obvious pick. Guides that still quote 40% or 50% numbers were written before the cuts.

Can Undead be Paladins?

Yes. Undead Paladin is one of the six new combinations, and the only Horde Paladin.

Do weapon specializations help casters?

Yes. The crit from a weapon specialization counts for spells too, as long as you have that weapon equipped.

Which race gets Fear Ward?

All of them: Fear Ward is baseline for every Priest in Forever.

Racial values come from the beta and may still change before launch on 4 November 2026. Plan your talents in the talent calculator and your account perks in the Legacy points calculator.
