Sorrowbane: Pulling the Secret Sword in Maldraxxus
A two-handed sword sits stuck in the ground of the Theater of Pain in Maldraxxus. Click it and you "lack the strength to move it". With four strength buffs active at the same time, none of which the game tells you about, it comes free. You get Sorrowbane, the battle pet Oonar's Arm and the achievement Harvester of Sorrow.

The four buffs
| Buff | Where | Stacks |
|---|---|---|
| Strength of Blood | Ta'tru, Revendreth (51.0, 78.8) | 1 |
| Potion of Unusual Strength | Au'larrynar, Maldraxxus (53.6, 47.8) | 1 |
| Battle Hardened (10 minutes) | World quest "A Few Bumps Along the Way" | 2 |
| Edible Redcap (about 2 minutes) | Red mushrooms in Glutharn's Decay (76.8, 57.1) | 4 |
How to do it
- Buy both potions and a Scroll of Teleport: Theater of Pain from One-Eyed Joby (53.2, 41.2).
- Wait until A Few Bumps Along the Way is up. This is the only slow part.
- Get into a raid group first; a party converted to a raid is enough. World quests can't be finished in a raid, so the ballista objectives keep giving Battle Hardened and you can retry if something goes wrong.
- Defend the damaged ballistae until you have two stacks of Battle Hardened.
- Fly to Glutharn's Decay and eat four Edible Redcaps. The rare Deadly Dapperling guards them.
- Read the scroll to land next to the sword, drink both potions, pull Oonar's Arm out of the ground first, then Sorrowbane.
What you get
The sword is bound to you and has a small bonus: auto attacks can execute weak non-elite enemies below 20% health. Its look is a recolour of the old Armageddon sword and goes into your collection. Players used this route successfully in The War Within and in late 2025. Relogging or taking a portal can remove your buffs, so move fast.
