Scarlet Monastery of Old: the Scarlet Key

The Scarlet Monastery players remember from Classic had four separate wings. Mists of Pandaria replaced them, and patch 10.1.7 brought them back for anyone holding the right key.

Getting The Scarlet Key

  • Hallow's End: The Scarlet Key can drop from the Loot-Filled Pumpkin, the daily reward for the Headless Horseman during the event.
  • Auction House: the key isn't bound, so it is usually easy to buy.
  • Doan's Strongbox: inside the old Library, behind Arcanist Doan. A friend who already has access can loot a key there and trade it to you.

Unlocking the wings

Take the key to the Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades. At the end of the corridor at the top of the stairs is an Old Keyring with the quest The Scarlet Key. Completing it unlocks the old monastery for every character in your warband.

To go in, click the Old Keyring for the buff Retracing the steps of those who came before. The four original entrances, from left to right, are the Graveyard, the Cathedral, the Armory and the Library. The bosses still drop their classic items, which makes the wings a favourite transmog run.

Mira Duskwood is the pen name of the Lost WOW editorial team. Mira writes the secret walkthroughs and the history of the lost areas, and keeps them up to date when a patch changes something.

  • How this guide was made. Every step was checked against at least two independent sources (Warcraft Wiki, Wowhead and Icy Veins), and against the patch notes for anything that changed over time.
