Waist of Time: the Secret Clock Belt

The Waist of Time is a cosmetic belt with a clock for a buckle, and the reward for the longest puzzle of Battle for Azeroth. It picks up where Baa'l leaves off, sends you to twenty forgotten spots in Azeroth, Outland and Draenor, and ends at a dwarven farm in the Arathi Highlands with a farmer called Grimmy who has a few secrets and a lot of grudges.

Before you start

Do this on the character that defeated Baa'l: the puzzle checks that character's progress. Buy these before you set out; all of them are on the Auction House:

• Four uncommon pieces made by tailors: Windwool Hood, Deathsilk Shoulders, Netherweave Tunic, Frostwoven Leggings.
• Four cheap items: Formula: Enchant Ring - Striking, Punctured Pelt, Rough Wooden Staff, Proximo's Rudius.

Step 1: twenty hidden objects

Click these in this exact order. Many sit at places from the World of Warcraft Chronicle books, and the order follows the story.

1. Lit Orb, Spires of Arak (35.5, 32.0), near Skyreach.
2. Small Red Strange Seed, Stormwind, by the vines near the portal to the Everbloom.
3. Tiny Frog, Spires of Arak (53.5, 10.7), on a rock under the water of a river.
4. Brittle Bone, Blade's Edge Mountains (33.7, 58.2), next to a large Apexis crystal.
5. Misplaced Candle, Spires of Arak (68, 41), on a skull by a large candle.
6. Odd Cup, Shadowmoon Valley in Draenor (45.7, 26.2), by the campfire in Exile's Rise.
7. Interesting Rock, Shadowmoon Valley in Outland (51.6, 43.8), up among the green fire.
8. Blooming Lily, Swamp of Sorrows (58.1, 31.6), floating under a tree.
9. Pretty Flower, Eastern Plaguelands (24.2, 78.2), on a casket on the lower floor of a crypt.
10. Old Book, Deadwind Pass (41.2, 79.0), in front of the pews of the ruined church.
11. Dead Fish, Blackrock Mountain (77.9, 44.3), by a campfire in the room next to the Lower Blackrock Spire portal.
12. Scratched Board, Duskwood (52.0, 62.4), under a large plank.
13. Lost Ring, Hillsbrad Foothills (44.6, 26.4), next to a skeleton in a doorway.
14. Spoiled Apple, Badlands (90.1, 38.0), on a table next to a pig in the inn at Fuselight-by-the-Sea.
15. Broken Tooth, Blasted Lands (36.8, 27.6), beside a skull on the Altar of Storms.
16. Worn Helm, Burning Steppes (27.1, 47.1), on a skeleton's head.
17. Leafy Leaf, Dalaran in Northrend (42.8, 20.2), behind a bench near the statue of Antonidas.
18. Musty Cloth, Terokkar Forest (40.2, 72.5), in a crate in the tent by the Shadow Labyrinth.
19. Broken Tablet, Twilight Highlands (17.1, 57.9), on the ground by a fence near Grim Batol.
20. Ashed Torch, Feralas (60.8, 67.8), near two tables and cauldrons in the ogre camp.

Step 2: Grimmy's friends

Grimmy lives in a small house on the coast of the Arathi Highlands (85.3, 73.6), but only in the old version of the zone: talk to Zidormi to travel back in time. Read Grimmy's List of Friends on the table. It names four friends only by their initials and the way they smelled. Players matched them to four characters added in Battle for Azeroth, and each friend stands for one of the tailoring pieces. Put on all four: the Windwool Hood, Deathsilk Shoulders, Netherweave Tunic and Frostwoven Leggings. Then ask Grimmy about his secrets. He claims to have none.

Step 3: Grimmy's enemies

A List of Enemies now appears in the house. Keep the four cheap items in your bags and visit his enemies with the right emote:

• /slap Aquinastrasz, the Vermillion Redoubt in the Twilight Highlands (28.4, 24.8).
• /wave Karnum Marshweaver, Karnum's Glade in Desolace (57.4, 47.6).
• /cheer Noggra, at the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak (40.6, 68.6).
• /dance at the Stained Mug, the innkeeper of the Shado-Pan Fallback in Kun-Lai Summit (44.4, 90.2).

Go back and tell Grimmy you've sent his enemies a message. A new note, Grimmy's Favorite Recipe, appears by the fireplace.

Step 4: rotten potatoes

The fields around the farm are full of rotten fruit and vegetables, and for a long time players thought they all mattered. Only one does: collect exactly 144 Rotten Potatoes from the field (around 88.4, 69.2) and you get a two-minute buff called Marker. Hurry back to Grimmy and ask him how you smell.

Step 5: the lockbox

Grimmy decides you smell just like his mother's pie and gives you his life's work. Climb onto the roof of the house, loot Grimmy's Rusty Lockbox, and the Waist of Time is yours.
