Thrayir, Eyes of the Siren: the Five Runekeys

Thrayir is a stormcrow lying lifeless in a vault on Siren Isle. Five runestones surround his body, and each needs a runekey earned a different way in the island's storm phase. Fill them all and he wakes up and offers himself as your mount.

Getting to Siren Isle

Take the introductory quest from Dawn in the Foundation Hall in Dornogal (41.8, 26.2). Skaggit then flies you to Siren Isle by zeppelin. Finish the intro chain, since it unlocks the island's systems. The zeppelin always waits at the same spot in Dornogal (72.5, 5.3), and Sky-Captain Cableclamp takes you back.

The storm phase

Everything happens in the storm. To unlock it for the week, finish the weekly elite world quest (Legacy of the Vrykul, Tides of Greed or Serpent's Wrath). After that, Suzie Boltwrench in Floatsam Shoal (69, 49) sends you into the storm whenever you like until the weekly reset.

Turbulent Runekey: three ghosts' fragments

  1. Rotting Hole (entrance 65.6, 78.1): a small cave in Stormtide Dregs, usually guarded by two Eggtenders. The fragment lies in front of a yellow Kul Tiran ghost at the back (67.2, 78.8).

Whirling Runekey: the Forgotten Vault

At the Forgotten Vault entrance in the north (43.9, 23.3), walk past Regald Hornfyre into the cave and touch the glowing Singing Tablet. Put your hand in the divot and you're teleported inside. Go straight down the hall, through the door and downstairs. Ksvir the Forgotten at the back almost always drops the key, and he respawns within minutes.

Thunderous Runekey: Runed Storm Caches

Five Thunderous Fragments drop from treasure on the island, mainly the Runed Storm Caches you can see once you finish the questline ending in Uncovered Mysteries. Open them with the Runecaster's Eye extra action button. Caches respawn every 5 to 10 minutes. If your shard seems empty, join a Siren Isle group in the Group Finder to hop to another realm.

Cyclonic Runekey: Zek'kul or fishing

The kraken Zek'kul the Shipbreaker floats off the south coast of Deadfin Mire (33, 73.4). Watch for his waves of skeleton adds. The key can also be fished from the waters behind his spawn, so fish while you wait for him to come back.

Torrential Runekey: the long grind

Seven Torrential Fragments drop very rarely from any mob in the storm, and they bind on pickup, so farm them on the character that will do the ritual. The best spot is the beach outside the Forgotten Vault, where Brinebound Wraiths keep charging Regald Hornfyre. Join a farming group in the Group Finder. The south coast is a backup with slower respawns, but it's right next to Zek'kul.

The ritual

Back at the Forgotten Vault entrance in the storm, take the room on the left and go upstairs. Thrayir's body lies there among five runestones. Put each runekey in its stone. Thrayir wakes up and offers a quest whose reward is the mount.
