Rare Spirit Beasts: Where to Tame Every One
Spirit beasts are the glowing, ghostly pets every hunter wants, and most of them are rare spawns that appear a few times a day in one zone. This is every rare spirit beast you can still tame in October 2026, from the first one in Wrath of the Lich King to the city secrets of Legion.

Before you camp
- Dismiss your pet and don't attack. At max level one stray hit kills them, and you wait hours for the next spawn.
- Use a rare-scanner addon or a
/tarmacro with the name. - Switching War Mode puts you on a different, often emptier copy of the zone.
Wrath of the Lich King
Loque'nahak
The first spirit beast ever, a white snow leopard with glowing blue spots and the mate of the loa Har'koa. He roams Sholazar Basin from seven spawn areas (around 71, 71; 67, 79; 51, 81; 30, 67; 21, 70; 36, 30; 59, 22) roughly every 6 to 10 hours. Taming him also counts for the Northern Exposure kill achievement, so he's heavily camped. Players tamed him in May, June and September 2026.
Skoll
Thorim's storm wolf, dark blue with lightning on his fur. He spawns in the Storm Peaks by Brunnhildar Village (46.2, 64.6), south-west of the Temple of Storms (30.2, 64.4) and outside the cave on the Snowdrift Plains (27.8, 50.6). Sources disagree on the timer, from 4 to 16 hours. He often turns up while people camp the Time-Lost Proto-Drake.
Arcturis
A ghost bear with the easiest camp of the Wrath four: one spawn point on the slope below Amberpine Lodge in the Grizzly Hills (31.2, 55.4), about every 6 to 10 hours. Players reported it as recently as 27 September 2026.
Gondria
A purple ghost saber-tooth in Zul'Drak, with five spawn areas: 77.2, 69.6; 67.6, 77.6; 61.4, 62.4; the blue Mam'toth Crater at 69.4, 48.4; and 63.4, 43.0. Fly a loop between them with a target macro.

Cataclysm
Ghostcrawler
A spectral crab named after Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street, the former lead systems designer, which casts a debuff called Nerfbat. It walks a long loop round the Abandoned Reef in the Abyssal Depths of Vashj'ir and fades in and out of sight every 15 to 30 seconds, even in combat, so mark it the moment you see it.

Karoma
"The Wolf Spirit" of the Twilight Highlands, and the only way to get the shaman ghost wolf look. She is the only hostile spirit beast, so open with the tame or a trap. Spawn areas include 65.6, 60.4; 58.6, 63.6; 54.2, 76.2; 49.6, 75.2; 54.0, 54.0 and 59.6, 43.4. Seen in December 2025 and July 2026.

Magria and Ankha
Two sibling ghost sabers, one bright blue and one pale, on the same path through The Regrowth in Mount Hyjal (from about 27.6, 51.4 east to 38, 54.6). They share a spawn, about every 6 to 17 hours, and which of the two appears is random. You must see the area as The Regrowth, not on fire: if it's still burning, do a few more Hyjal quests from Hamuul Runetotem. At low level take your armour off first; their Metal Cleaver hits armour hard.
Ban'thalos
The only spirit owl, circling high above the Sanctuary of Malorne in Mount Hyjal (around 28, 62) every 6 to 17 hours. He only appears after the Hyjal quest line reaches the sanctuary. The trick is to tag him in the air and survive the fall with Disengage, Slow Fall or a glider. A 2026 tip: stand on the tallest tree near 27.3, 64.3, fly up, tag him with a non-damaging shot and drop back onto the tree.

Legion
Bulvinkel
The only ghost moose and one of the easiest spirit beasts. He stands among goats on the cliffs south-east of the Halls of Valor building in Stormheim (73.8, 84.3), every few hours. Several hunters tamed him in late 2025.

Lightning Paw
A glowing blue fox with lightning, designed by the daughter of WoW developer Steve Danuser. He hides, always stealthed, in bushes with blinking eyes in Duskwood: try 16.7, 54.4; 23.0, 29.0; 16.0, 60.0; 24.3, 39.7; 23.6, 76.6 and 30.2, 41.7. Stand on the bush and Flare. In 2026 players reported that the target macro didn't always find him, so check by hand.

Gon and the Lost Spectral Gryphon
Two city secrets from patch 7.2. In Orgrimmar's Valley of Spirits, a glowing Spectral Eggshell beside the burning pile of skulls hatches Gon, an inky-blue spirit raptor. His Alliance twin is the Lost Spectral Gryphon in Stormwind. Only hunters level 45 and up see the egg, and the timer ranges from half an hour to many hours.

Battle for Azeroth: Hati
Thorim's other wolf, the Beast Mastery artifact companion in Legion. Patch 8.1.5 added the chain "Spark of Genius", which starts with the Image of Mimiron in Boralus or Dazar'alor and leads to the Temple of Storms in the Storm Peaks. Once it's done you can tame Hati in six colours there. You need level 50 and an empty pet slot, and the two essence fights hit hard. One 2026 comment says the chain needs the Legion artifact; older reports say it doesn't.

The puzzle one: Gara
Gara, a void wolf in Draenor, isn't a rare spawn but a chain across six zones and a fight in a void realm. She has her own guide: how to tame Gara.
