WoW Forever's New Item Tricks: Old Loot, New Effects

World of Warcraft: Forever doesn't only add new secrets, it quietly rewrites old loot. Items players remember from 2004 now carry new effects, and some blank set pieces from the old game files finally got names. None of this is announced in game; players found each one by looting it and reading the tooltip.

Requires Level 36 Use: Stuns target for 3 sec. Naga are Stunned for 5 sec and refund 80% of the cooldown. (15 Min Cooldown)

Tidal Charm: bad news for naga

Prince Nazjak in the Drowned Reef off Arathi Highlands still drops the Tidal Charm, a level 36 trinket that stuns a target for 3 seconds. In Forever it has a new line: naga are stunned for 5 seconds and 80% of the cooldown is refunded. Against naga, a 15-minute trinket turns into one you can use every few minutes.

Rockslicer: mining without Mining

Rhahk'Zor, the first boss of the Deadmines, drops the Rockslicer, a level 18 two-handed axe. Its new use effect cuts open a Copper, Tin, Silver or Iron vein and gathers it even if you don't know Mining, with 30 charges. It doesn't teach you to smelt, so the ore is for selling or for a friend.

Blessing of Kalimdor: a set with a zone bonus

Three Barrens rares now drop a small set that sat blank in the old game files:

• Mark of the Pack Leader (neck, level 20) from Humar the Pridelord.
• Signet of the Zhevra (ring, level 18) from Swiftmane.
• Raptor Hide Cloak (back, level 16) from Takk the Leaper.

Two pieces give 5% movement speed, but only in the Barrens and Stonetalon Mountains. It's a small bonus, and the point seems to be that low-level gear can be fun, not only stats.

Smaller finds

• Stolen Wastewander Cowl: a helm with no stats at all, sold by the Gadgetzan reputation vendor at Revered. It's purely a transmog look.
• Applejack Still: at Thunder Falls in Elwynn Forest, put four Shiny Red Apples into the still for a Thunder Applejack, then bring the bottle to the sergeant at the Westbrook Garrison for a hidden turn-in with some experience.
• Spell Pierce: a new stat that turned up on robes looted by low-level groups, much like the spell penetration of The Burning Crusade. With about 12,500 items hidden from dataminers, new stats only surface when someone loots them.

What isn't real

A popular video lists the Bug Catching Net as a Forever item. It's from Classic Season of Discovery; Forever's database doesn't have it.
